Over the past few years I have filled out my Beach Boys CD Collection with the reissues and all the other releases. I've been buying a few LPs and transferring them to CDR. In particular I have been interested in all the collections that have been released over the years. And while I understand the reason the Labels keep putting out new collections I wondered how different they could actually be.

So I selected some of the more popular Beach Boys Hits collections on CD and put together a table that lists all the songs from each collection. I call it my compilation of The Beach Boys Collections.  For those of you looking for the perfect collection take some time to review my compilation of collections.  To go to the compilation page click here. 

While I did not complete any formal evaluation of the collected information, I did come to the conclusion that there were still lots of wonderful songs not represented in any of the collections.  A summary of notes from the table is found below.

Songs from the following albums/cds were used in the compilation of collections.  Click on the covers to get a closer look at the cover and song listing for each collection.

1. This edition of the compilation table includes 111 Beach Boys songs taken from 15 different CD Collections.

2. The original "Best of the Beach Boys" LPs Volume 1, Volume 2 and Volume 3 are included in the Table for historical purposes.  The songs are not included in the compilation totals column.

3. The "Good Vibrations" Box Set is also included in the Table but not in the song totals.  It is certainly recommended for fans looking for otherwise unavailable versions of songs.

4. "Spirit of America" is the most eclectic collection as most of its songs are not found on any other collection. It is no longer available that I am aware of, but can be found on eBay from time-to-time.  It was originally intended as a follow-up to the extremely successful "Endless Summer" collection.

5. The "Platinum Collection" has the most songs (60) in a single collection consisting of three discs.  It is a very affordable readily available set.

6. The Album "All Summer Long" has the most songs appearing in collections with 9 of 11 songs.  "Summer Days (and Summer Nights)" and "Surf's Up" had the second most songs with seven each.  Go to the Album Sort page to see how many songs from each album were included in collections.

7. The most popular songs are California Girls, Don't Worry Baby, Good Vibrations, and I Get Around. They are found in 9 collections.  There are 10 songs that are included in 8 collections.  The Table provides total occurrences for each song.

8. Over 35% of the songs (42) are included in only one collection.

9. An alphabetical listing of all 111 songs found in the various collections can be viewed at the
Track Sort page.  Each song is listed with the album on which it was originally included.

10. With the exception of those obvious songs (Fun Fun Fun with Status Quo), no attempt was made to ascertain whether the versions of each song lists were the same from collection to collection.   It was assumed that they were.

11. The "Sounds of Summer" CD is also available as the "Sights and Sounds of Summer" that includes a DVD with 10 video programs.  Well worth it for the DVD alone.
